About the Founder

Pastor Mezgebu Tsemru and his family

Our founder and president, Pastor Mezgebu Tsemru, was born and lives in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. He is an ordained pastor and one of the founders of Addis Ababa Emmanuel United Church. He is married and has three beautiful children.

Pastor Mezgebu came to Christ 25 years ago, while he was an active member and minister in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. As he and his friends began to grow in their newfound faith, the Orthodox Church persecuted and expelled him and his friends from the church. In time, Pastor Mezgebu and his friends founded the Addis  Ababa Emanuel United Church, where he pastored for 22 years. He also served in his denomination (Ethiopia Emmanuel United Church) for four years as a board member and another four years as board secretary.

Pastor Mezgebu has traveled extensively to various parts of the country to serve and support in the planting of similar reformation movements, as well as to help other evangelical churches.

In obedience to God’s calling on his life, Pastor Mezgebu started his engagement in missions to unreached people groups in 2009. Today, CMGM serves in various parts of Ethiopia to reach unreached people groups. He also partners with global ministries to fulfill the Great Commission in reaching the unreached, making disciples through church planting, disciple making movements, leadership development, and serving persecuted believers.
